I've been to countless auctions. The auctioneers all know who the dealers are. After I've been to enough and see the same faces, it's no secret who's there for what purposes. When auctioneers come upon a lot nobody bids on, they usually get the attention of dealers who may be sleeping to let them know stuff is going cheap. I've seen dealer that already have a lot of bids in just put a bid in just to keep the auction moving along.
